You know that time of the month or year when everything feels gross or dirty around the house. Whether you have been traveling or just straight up busy at work, your home is feeling neglected. You need a go to weekly cleaning routine to quickly get everything done around the house without feeling overwhelmed. Time does not need to be wasted on walking around the house trying to figure out where to start.

Some people like to spread out cleaning, but when you work full time there are so many days where you won’t feel like doing your “daily chore” and then it all piles up anyways. We are guilty of going days without doing any kind of cleaning just because we have a jam packed schedule (even though we would never admit that we go that long without cleaning). Life gets busy and effective cleaning is not a 5 minute process especially if you don’t have a good checklist or plan of action in place each week.

After a full work week, no one wants to waste the 48-72 hours of weekend time deep cleaning the house because that time truly is precious. We LIVE for the weekends after a long work week.

With that being said, if you work a full time job, you also want a weekly cleaning list that is efficient and can be accomplished in a few hours. When you know exactly what needs to be done and the order to do it in, you will be giving yourself SO much time back. No more spending a whole Sunday afternoon cleaning your entire house. This is the efficient checklist you need in your life when you have a full time job!

This post is about the essential weekly cleaning checklist that you need.

2 Tips for making sure you complete your Weekly Cleaning Checklist:

1. Use time blocking for your weekly cleaning checklist.

After doing your weekly cleaning checklist the first couple of weeks, look and see how long it takes you to complete the entire process. After that, you will know if you need to block off 2 hours or 5 hours (some people are slower than others, I know I am).

OR break it up. If you only have an hour on Saturday, but 2 hours on Sunday, complete the quicker tasks on Saturday and save the longer loads for Sunday.

2. Plan your weekly cleaning checklist time block at the beginning of the week or month.

Having a specific weekly cleaning schedule and a day/time block on the calendar makes cleaning WAY less stressful and overwhelming. You now know exactly when you plan to clean and don’t have to worry about it all week.

Essential 10 Step Weekly Cleaning Checklist for your Home (while balancing a full time job!):

1. Vacuum and Mop.

The first step in the weekly cleaning checklist should always be the floors. What do you do in your house every single day? Walk around. I know everyone says the bathroom is the grossest area of the house, I truly believe the floors can get just as nasty.

Run the vacuum first to get all the dirt up (and hair!) and then mop to disinfect and clean the floors (it helps you mop easier too when you start with the vacuum!).

Once you finish, pour the nasty water in the toilet (the satisfaction of the dirty water is unmatched!)

2. Wash your bed sheets.

I am a white sheet girl through and through simply because you can bleach them all the time. Add your laundry detergent in and then add a little bit of bleach to really deep clean your sheets!

If you work full time or have an insane schedule like us, you know that the washer is not used at all during the week. We are the people that wait till the weekend to do sheets, towels, and clothes. (Awful habit, but it is life!)

Since you normally have multiple loads going on one day, get the sheets going first so you will have the energy to make the bed.

Getting into bed on a Sunday night with clean sheets will help take away almost all Sunday Scaries!

3. Dust the furniture.

The first thing you go to deep clean is 100% not your couch, tv stand, bed frame, or any furniture surface. If you told me that, I would not believe you.

However, you would not believe how much dust that those surfaces collect. The second thing you won’t believe is how quick it is to clean those surfaces. It takes under 5 minutes to spray and wipe all the furniture (maybe a few more if you have to move picture frames or decor out of the way).

Vacuuming your couch is also another quick deep clean hack to make sure your space is crumb/dirt free!

The small/quick chores make a huge difference.

Here is a quick weekly cleaning list for furniture to dust/wipe down:

  • Couch
  • End table
  • TV
  • TV/Entertainment Stand
  • Desk
  • Headboard
  • Dresser
  • Nightstands
  • Barstools
  • Coffee table
  • Dining Table & Chairs
  • Fans

4. Wash your towels, bath mats, kitchen rugs, etc.

Now that the sheets are washed and in the dryer, let’s round up the towels and mats around the house.

White towels are also great to use with bleach to really clean and get any stains out.

Towel and Mat Cleaning CheckList:

  • Bath towels
  • Hand towels
  • Bath mat
  • Kitchen towels
  • Kitchen rug

7. Get rid of expired sauces in fridge and pantry.

Before you head to the grocery store for the week and get everything you need, do a quick inventory and clean out of the fridge/pantry.

There are probably expired sauces, leftover food from the week, or fruit/veggies that went bad.

Throw the expired products in the garbage and do a quick wipe down of the shelves.

Now your pantry and fridge is ready for your fresh food from the grocery store!

8. Wipe down appliances.

The kitchen appliances get so gross during the week from cooking at home. Grease, food, and who knows what other liquids get spilled on them throughout the week.

Grab stainless steel wipes and stove top cleaner and take 10-15 minutes to wipe them down.

9. Clean out wallets/purses/work bag.

Not all cleaning needs to be with disinfectant and bleach! Clean out your work bag from the week. Water bottles? Straw wrappers? Leftover containers? Hair ties? Earrings? You could find anything from anytime in my work bag.

Clean our your wallet/purse too! You might even find cash or gift cards that you did not know you had 🙂 !

10. Bleach and scrub the shower & toilet.

Second to the floors in your house, the bathroom is for sure one of the cleaning necessities of the week.

Not only does my shower and toilet need cleaning, but I usually have products all over the counter. You are always in a rush the morning before work so products are usually all over or not organized. Take the 5 minutes to put everything back in its spot for Monday morning!

Bathroom Cleaning Checklist:

  • Wipe down counters.
  • Clean/scrub toilet.
  • Scrub tile of shower.
  • Wipe down mirror & shower door.
  • Organize makeup/hair products from the week.

Weekly Cleaning Schedule by Room

If it is easier for you to clean by room, this is the checklist for you! Move through each room during your cleaning time block and check off each room.

TIP – Light a candle in each room you finish to leave your house smelling amazing!
